The Midland Trail Museum & Historical Society (MTMHS)

The Midland Trail Museum & Historical Society (MTMHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the life and history of Western Greenbrier County and the Midland Trail/Route 60. The actual museum is in the startup phase. The actual purchase and dedication of the structure is expected to take place sometime in late 2008. The Historical Society has been doing research and has acquired many collections already for the museum. If possible, MTMHS plans to sponsor a Civil War re-enactment at L.Z. Rainelle on Memorial Day weekend in 2008.

MTMHS’s greatest success so far is The Western Greenbrier Reporter & Midland Trail Monitor, which is published bi-weekly by Stover P.R. & Publishing, a subsidiary of Stover Enterprises LLC, and printed by Greenbrier Printing. Current sponsors are Don & Betty Crookshanks of Rupert; Randy & Andrea Aide Pendleton of Rainelle; Fred & Scarlett Kellerman from Wellspring of Greenbrier in Rupert; and Ed & Gay Zopp of Quinwood.

MTMHS also manages the Western Greenbrier Community Coalition, a group which is dedicated to the success of the economic development, growth and equal rights in Western Greenbrier County , working desperately to eliminate the “ Mason-Dixon line ” type of segregation from the eastern and western ends of the county.

MTMHS also manages two funds, Western Greenbrier Fine Arts Fund and Western Greenbrier Small Business Fund. They are expected to start offering scholarships and mini grants to Western Greenbrier citizens in 2009.

Finally, the goal by 2010 is to offer weekend Midland Trail tours with a one-night stay from White Sulphur Springs to Kenova and Kenova to White Sulphur Springs.
